What does a facial symmetry score actually tell you?

A facial symmetry score estimates left-right balance in the image you submit. A tilted head, uneven light, expression, or camera angle can affect what the photo shows. In Lookist, symmetry is one of 15 appearance scores. It does not diagnose facial asymmetry, establish a health problem, or define how attractive you are.

The photo and your face are different things

A camera records a view from one position. If you turn your head, one side becomes more visible than the other. If the light comes from one side, the shadows differ. A symmetry estimate from that image includes the effects of the capture setup.

For this reason, a lower score in a new photo does not establish that your face became less symmetrical. First compare head position, camera height, expression, and anything that covers part of the face.

Read symmetry within the whole report

Lookist lists symmetry separately from facial harmony, jawline, eyes, and other visible features. Read the explanation attached to the score rather than treating every label as a measurement of the same thing.

Symmetry concerns the relationship between the two sides in the image. Facial harmony concerns the overall appearance of proportions. This distinction is useful for reading the report, but it does not turn either score into a clinical measurement.

Use a repeatable photo before comparing

Take a straight front photo with the camera near face height. Use even light and a relaxed expression. Keep the distance similar when you return to the same setup. Avoid comparing a mirror image, a filtered portrait, and a close selfie as if they were equivalent inputs.

Do not translate a symmetry score from one app into another app's scale. This guide does not establish a shared formula or an accuracy ranking across products. A higher number in a different app is not evidence that your face changed.

Do not turn a score into a treatment plan

A face report cannot identify the cause of a medical or dental concern. It does not justify facial manipulation, jaw exercises, or treatment chosen to correct a number. Use a qualified professional for concerns that need an examination.

Lookist's care checklist focuses on basic skin, hair, and sleep habits. It does not promise to make the two sides of your face match or to change your bone structure. Keep that limit in mind when deciding what to do after reading the report.
