How to Track Your Facial Improvement Over Time

Improvement is hard to notice when you see yourself in the mirror every day. That's why Lookist has built a comprehensive tracking system designed to show you the changes that are actually happening.

Progress Photos

Once per day, you can take a new set of three photos (front, left, right) from the Progress tab. Lookist stores these as "sessions" — timestamped collections that you can compare side-by-side with any previous session.

The key to useful progress photos: consistency. Same lighting, same distance, same angle. Lookist's photo capture guides help you align your shots every time.

Score History

Every time you complete a progress photo session, Lookist runs a fresh analysis and records your new score. The score history chart (available in 14, 30, and 90-day views) shows your improvement trend over time.

Most users see an initial plateau (weeks 1-2) followed by a gradual upward trend as routines take effect. Skin metrics improve first, followed by structural changes from exercises.

Streak System

Your streak counts consecutive days of routine completion. Lookist displays both your current streak and your all-time best. The streak system isn't just gamification — research shows that habit formation requires 21-66 days of consistent repetition.

Users who maintain a 30+ day streak report an average overall score improvement of 1.2 points. Those with 60+ day streaks average 1.8 points.

Milestones

Lookist awards milestones as you progress:

  • First Step — Complete your first routine task
  • Week Warrior — Reach a 7-day streak
  • Iron Habit — Reach a 30-day streak
  • Century — Complete 100 total tasks
  • Dedicated — Complete 500 total tasks
  • First Snapshot — Take your first progress photo
  • Memory Lane — Take 10 progress photo sessions

The Daily Completion Grid

The Progress tab also shows a GitHub-style contribution grid — a visual map of your daily routine completion over the past 12 weeks. Each cell represents a day, colored by how many routine items you completed. It's a powerful motivator: nobody wants to break a green streak.

Tips for Maximum Progress

  • Take progress photos at the same time of day (morning light is most consistent)
  • Complete your full routine before checking scores — partial days don't count toward streaks
  • Review your 90-day trend, not daily fluctuations — scores can vary by 0.2-0.3 points day to day
  • Focus on one insecurity at a time rather than trying to improve everything simultaneously
